Got the Mamboberry LS DAC+ in the mail yesterday! It was packaged really well and it made it over to the US in perfect condition. Shipping was very fast and all my question were answered within a few hours = Excellent customer service!!

In the box were two stand-offs in a separate bag so I could mount it quickly to the RPI. In the past I have been running USB dacs since it looked “easier” to just plug something in. Well, I’m kicking myself now a bit that I haven’t done this sooner, because plugging in the Mamboberry board was just as easy since all it required was attaching it to the rpi and then specify the Mamboberry DAC as an output in Volumio, restart and then it works.

So what about the sound? I have only listed to it now for a day so I will need to spend some more time with it. I also need to point out that I have so far only powered it via the RPI with a cheap power supply. My plan is to add a better external power supply later on.

With that said, my first impression was WOW! This is really good! I had been eying the Mamboberry HiFi DAC+ for a while due to all good reviews it received. Once I saw that the LS announced I just had to get one.

I pulled out another SABRE 9023 USB dac that I had and did some A/B comparisons, and it was a night and day difference. The mamboberry is really clear, smooth, with lots of dynamics and tight low-end. Can’t wait to see how it will sound with a good power supply!

Will keep listening and update later on when I have some more time on it. So far, I’m more than pleased. Very enjoyable listening.

BTW: What power supply are you using?
